How do I use an imported KML or KMZ route in a clip?
Choose the Event and import your file
Use this workflow when you already have routes or places saved as KML or KMZ. The application guide uses Google My Maps and Google Earth Pro to prepare these files, but external preparation is optional when you build a road route inside JJ.
- Create or select the Event for the trip. An Event holds related tracks, points, and clips.
- Import the prepared KML or KMZ tracks and points into that Event.
- Check both the Event list and the map. Confirm that the track is the intended path and that the places are in the expected locations.
Do this check before adjusting the camera. Camera settings will not correct a route whose geographic path was prepared incorrectly.
To follow the import demonstration, open Importing KML and KMZ Routes. Its embedded app guide starts at the KML/KMZ section.
Turn the imported data into an animation
Choose the clip according to the data you want to present:
- Track Following: create the clip for your imported track, set a duration, and let the camera travel along it.
- Circling Around: assign a point as the orbit centre in Key points. A track is optional for the orbit itself.
- Point-to-Point: use key points for the locations the camera should visit, and set the stopping altitude at each one.
A successful import puts geographic objects in the Event. It does not replace configuring those objects in the clip.
If you are unsure which movement fits your result, choose the clip type before adjusting the camera. Importing a route does not force you to use every point as a camera stop.
A track or point arrived, but it is missing from the animation
- Check whether the intended track is active in the clip. Inactive tracks do not animate; the guide shows new Circling Around clips starting with their tracks inactive.
- Select the required point markers and check their visibility. V toggles selected points in the guide.
- If a visible point still seems absent, check Points Appear and move the playhead to the moment when the route reaches that point.
- Play the clip to check the camera, track, and markers together.
What if the imported path needs correcting?
JJ does not currently provide an editor for the geometry of imported Google Earth tracks. Correct the path in the tool where you prepared it, then import the revised file.
Keep your source file for future edits. After importing a revised route, check which track is active so that the clip uses the path you intended.
