FAQ
What is JJ Route Animator, and who is it for?
JJ Route Animator creates animated map clips: follow a travel route, circle a landmark, move between locations or zoom in on a place. Export the clip to use on its own or add it to a larger video in your video editor. JJ creates the map clips; the full edit is assembled in your video editor.
It is designed for professional video editors, bloggers and hobbyists who want to show where a journey takes place.
Is JJ Route Animator suitable for beginners?
Yes. You can find places and build a road route inside JJ, then turn it into a map animation. For a first clip, start with one route and Track Following: preview the camera movement and place markers before exporting.
Follow the first-clip workflow for the main steps.
Which devices does JJ Route Animator support?
JJ Route Animator runs on Windows and macOS computers. On Download App, choose Windows or the Mac build for your processor: Intel or Apple Silicon. There is no iOS or Android version.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. JJ Route Animator requires an internet connection. The app uses online services for maps and for account or free-period checks.
Can I try the app without registering or adding a card?
Yes. You can download JJ from Download App and use the free 14-day period without creating an account or adding a card. You need an account and payment when you move to a paid subscription after the free period.
How do I continue after the free 14 days?
Choose a subscription on Pricing, then register or sign in to your website account and complete checkout with your card. In the desktop app, sign in with that account's email address and password.
Registration alone does not purchase a subscription. If you already have an account, use it for checkout and app sign-in.
Should I use my email address or username to sign in?
In the desktop app, use your account email address and password. The website login at My Account also accepts a username.
If you have forgotten the password, use the password recovery form on the website.
How do monthly and annual subscriptions differ in billing?
A monthly plan is billed by the month; an annual plan is billed for the year. The monthly figure displayed for an annual plan on Pricing is its equivalent monthly cost, not a monthly instalment.
Check the selected billing period and full order total at checkout before paying.
Does a paid subscription renew automatically?
Yes. Paid subscriptions renew automatically. Open Subscriptions in your website account to view your subscription and its available management actions.
The free 14-day period used without an account or card does not by itself create a paid subscription.
How can I stop my subscription from renewing?
Sign in and open Subscriptions, select your subscription and use its available cancellation action. Read the confirmation before submitting it.
The actions shown depend on the subscription's status. If no cancellation action is available, contact the JJ team and describe what the subscription page shows.
Do I need Google Maps or Google Earth to create a route?
No. Find places or add points manually, then build a road route directly inside JJ. You can also import a prepared route or places from a KML or KMZ file; using Google Maps or Google Earth is optional.
Which route and point files can I import?
JJ imports routes and points from KML and KMZ files. Add the file to the Event for your trip, then check that the expected routes and points appear on the map before creating a clip.
See the KML/KMZ import workflow for what to check after importing.
Can I build a route away from roads inside JJ?
The built-in route builder currently follows roads. It cannot yet construct an off-road route inside JJ.
Importing a prepared KML or KMZ file is a separate way to bring route data into an Event.
Can I edit a track imported from Google Earth?
You can import the track, but JJ cannot currently edit the geometry of a track imported from Google Earth. Change its path in the tool where you prepare the file, then import the updated KML or KMZ into JJ.
Camera movement and the track's path are different: adjusting the clip's camera does not redraw the imported route.
Can I create portrait or square clips?
Yes. Choose 9:16 for a portrait clip or 1:1 for a square clip; landscape formats are also available. Check the route, camera framing and labels with the intended frame shape before exporting.
Does JJ Route Animator support 4K export?
Yes. JJ supports 4K export for map-animation clips. Choose the frame shape for your project, preview the clip and export it as a video file.
See how to prepare and export a clip for the checks to make before recording.
Can I use JJ clips in my video editor?
Yes. Export your animation from JJ, then import the resulting video file into your video editor. There you can combine the map clip with footage, narration, music and the rest of your edit.
This workflow uses the exported file; it does not require a direct connection between JJ and the editor. The map clips for video editing example shows how a map shot can introduce a place before the on-location footage.
