How do I use place markers, signs and 3D objects?
How do I show or hide markers and choose when they appear?
- Select the point or points you want to change in the clip.
- Press V to toggle visibility, as demonstrated in the application guide. You can apply this to several selected points together.
- Play the clip to check the result.
Because this is a toggle, using it on an already visible point hides that point. Check the selected set before applying it to a group.
The guide also uses a flashlight tool to reveal hidden points while working in the map view. This helps you find them; it does not enable their signs in the finished clip. Select the relevant point and change its visibility if it should appear in the animation. If several points have mixed visibility, select only the hidden ones before pressing V; toggling a mixed selection can hide points that were already visible.
Choose the appearance time
Check Points Appear and the current position on the timeline. This parameter controls when the marker appears relative to the route reaching the point.
- Use 2 to show it two seconds before arrival.
- Use 0 to show it at arrival.
Preview just before the route reaches the point, then play through the arrival. If you only inspect an earlier frame, a correctly configured marker may not have appeared yet. Visibility determines whether the point can be shown; Points Appear determines its appearance time.
To see visibility and marker timing within a complete clip setup, use the route-animation walkthrough.
How do I change a place sign or add another place?
You can change the styling of a point's sign. After changing it, preview the point in the clip's camera view so you can see how the sign appears at that distance and angle.
To mark another location, add a point with that place's coordinates, then configure its visibility and appearance timing in the clip. Adding a point identifies a place; assigning a camera target is a separate action. For example, a Circling Around clip needs its orbit centre assigned in Key points.
Does JJ include a library of 3D objects?
Yes. JJ Route Animator has a built-in library of 3D objects that can be added to a scene. Many objects have their own animation. Animated country flags are also available for marking places on the map.
The in-app object library and the website's Earth Library are separate. Use the app's library for scene objects; Earth Library on the website is a collection of map-related content.
