Gangotri Glacier

Gangotri Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas and the primary source of the Bhagirathi River, one of the main headstreams of the Ganges. It is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India, within the protected region of Gangotri National Park.

Stretching approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) in length and situated at elevations ranging from about 4,000 to over 7,000 meters (13,100–23,000 ft), the glacier is surrounded by prominent Himalayan peaks including Shivling, Thalay Sagar, and Meru. It is a significant pilgrimage and trekking destination, attracting both Hindu devotees and mountaineers exploring the high-altitude terrain.
