Licancabur Volcano, Chile

Licancabur Volcano is a prominent stratovolcano located on the border between Chile and Bolivia, rising dramatically above the Atacama Desert near the town of San Pedro de Atacama. Its nearly symmetrical cone and isolated position make it one of the most recognizable volcanic landmarks in the Central Andes.

At an elevation of 5,916 meters (19,409 ft), Licancabur dominates the surrounding high-altitude plateau and overlooks the turquoise waters of Laguna Verde. The summit crater contains one of the world’s highest lakes, formed by snowmelt and seasonal precipitation. The volcano holds cultural and archaeological significance, as it was considered sacred by pre-Columbian Andean civilizations.
