JJ Route Animator is a cross‑platform program for Windows and macOS that helps video bloggers and travellers visualise a route on a map and add it to their video. To get started, download and install the application on your computer, create a new track and add travel points or GPS coordinates. The interface is intuitive: you can build a route, choose a map style, add markers and 3D objects, then render the clip and export it for publication. Creating clips longer than 80 seconds, accessing the extended 3D object library or uploading your own PNG images requires a paid subscription.
To use the application you need to download the installer for Windows or Mac and activate a subscription. The free version limits the duration of the animated clip and the number of 3D objects. The “BASIC” plan allows you to make videos up to 80 seconds and use up to 20 3D objects, as well as upload PNG images. The “PRO” plan is designed for professional projects: clips up to ten minutes, up to 250 3D objects and up to 1,000 tracks or points in a clip. If the application does not start, check that your system meets the requirements and that your antivirus does not block the installer.
While planning a trip, save the addresses and coordinates of places so that you can quickly enter them into the program later – this helps to recreate the route in detail and add it to your video. JJ Route Animator lets you add points of interest – landmarks, cities, landscapes and other objects – and accompany them with descriptions. When creating an animation, choose colour schemes, icons and map styles that match your blog’s aesthetic. You can vary the clip length – from a few seconds for an overview of the route to several minutes for a slow flyover of an interesting place. Save separate video clips for different parts of the journey to separate stories and diversify the editing.
If you cannot add many points or 3D objects, check whether you have reached the limits of your chosen plan (the limits are lower in the free and basic plans). When working with markers and labels, remember that descriptions should be short, otherwise they will obscure the map; for complex routes it is convenient to group markers by colour. Rendering can take time – use the preview to choose a suitable length and camera height and try different scenarios before pressing the “Route Animation” button. If the video turns out choppy, reduce the number of points or enable smooth transitions.
